NIH-Duke Master's Program in Clinical Research
THE DEADLINE TO APPLY FOR THE 2024-2025 PROGRAM YEAR IS: APRIL 15, 2024. NIH APPLICANTS WILL BE NOTIFIED OF ADMISSIONS DECISIONS BY JUNE 1. CLASSES TYPICALLY BEGIN BY THE END OF AUGUST.
A collaboration between Duke University and the National Institutes of Health.
Eligibility
This program is designed primarily for NIH clinical fellows, staff clinicians, and other health professionals who are training for careers in clinical research. Participants must be able to attend classes held at the NIH Clinical Center in Bethesda, MD. Prospective applicants should consult with their ICs for funding sources and secure funding prior to submitting applications. Enrollment in this program is limited.
About the Program
The NIH-Duke Master's Program in Clinical Research, established in 1998, is one of the nation's first training programs in clinical research. This program allows participants to attend formal courses in research design, research management, medical genomics, and statistical analysis at the Clinical Center by means of video-conferencing from Duke or on-site by adjunct faculty.
The program leads to a Master of Health Sciences in Clinical Research, a professional degree awarded by the Duke University School of Medicine. There is also a non-degree option for qualified students who want to pursue specific areas of interest.
Basic Science Research Track (established fall 2020): This is a customized curriculum designed for physician scientists and trainees leading to a Master of Health Sciences in Clinical Research Degree. The program prepares individuals for careers as physician scientists across a range of discovery sciences. The curriculum includes new coursework that will prepare researchers to: perform rigorous basic science; manage, analyze, and present data; oversee a laboratory; and successfully compete for research funding.
